Battery problem – 18/10/2025 1001 to 1225 (33)

A boat reported at the 10nm reef that he was alongside a jet ski that had a battery problem and needed assistance. Conditions were good with a calm sea and a NW wind of 5-8kts. Whakatane Rescue was launched, located the 2 vessels and towed the jet ski back to Whakatane. A big thank you to the Good Samaritan.

Boat sinking – 17/10/2025 1421 to 1625 (32)

A call was received by Maritime Radio on Ch 16 from a boat with 2POB on fire and sinking 18nm North of Whakatane, Whakatane Rescue II was tasked, located the stricken vessel and brought the 2 POB back safely to Whakatane.

Engine problem – 3/10/2025 1755 to 1910 (31)

A boat with 2POB reported at Whale Is with an engine problem and requested a tow back to Whakatane. Whakatane Rescue II was tasked, located the boat and towed it safely back across the bar.

Flat battery – 2/10/2025 1035 to 1330 (30)

A boat reported at the Western end of the Mussel Farm with a flat battery and requested a jump start. A Good Samaritan offered to help but couldn’t get the engine started. The Good Samaritan didn’t have enough fuel to tow the stricken vessel back to Whakatane, so Whakatane Rescue II was launched and towed the vessel safely back to Whakatane. A big thank you to the Good Samaritan.

Engine problem – 28/09/2025 1535 to 1715 (29)

A boat with 4POB reported at Coastlands with an engine problem and requested assistance. Conditions were good with a gentle breeze and a slight sea. Whakatane Rescue II was launched, located the vessel and towed it back to Whakatane.
