At 0743hr a 6m white fibreglass boat with 2 POB reported they had engine problems 500m off the Whakatane Bar.  The boat requested a tow across the bar.  An all stations alert was transmitted and at 0745hr a passing good samaritan offered to assist. At 0750 both boats were safe back in the river.  Many thanks to the good samaritan for the assistance.
