A 5m aluminuim boat with 2 POB reported an engine problem 500m off Thornton Bar and requested a tow back to Thornton.  Conditions were good with 4-7kt wind from WSW and little swell.  An “All Stations” call was made at 11.02hr requesting assistance from boats in the area.  At 11.05hr a good samaritan offered to tow the boat across Thornton Bar and both boats were safely at the Thornton boat ramp at 11.23hr.  Whakatane Coastguard sincerely thanks the good samaritan for its assistance.
